  • President of India Ram Nath Kovind has approved the Tamil Nadu Agricultural Produce and Livestock Contract Farming and Services (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2019. Now Tamil Nadu has become the first state in the country to enact a law on contract farming. The aims of this Act is to set a policy framework and institutional mechanism on agricultural produce and livestock contract farming.
  • India is celebrating the 144th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel as National Unity Day on 31st Oct.
  • India now has 28 states and 9 Union Territories. Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh are union Territories now. First Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir is Girish Chandra Murmu. First Lieutenant Governors of Ladakh is Radha Krishna Mathur.
  • Rafael Mariano Grossi of Argentina has been elected as the new Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). He succeeds Yukiya Amano of Japan, who passed away in July. He will be the 6th head of IAEA since it was founded more than six decades ago in 1957.
  • Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde was appointed as the 47th Chief Justice of India. Justice Bobde will take oath as the CJI on November 18th, a day after incumbent Ranjan Gogoi demits office.
  • The Best-Performing CEOs in the World, 2019′ list compiled by the Harvard Business Review (HBR) features 100 CEOs. The list has been topped by American technology company NVIDIA’s CEO Jensen Huang. Among the top 10 chief executives on the list, 3 spots have been occupied by the Indian-origin CEOs.
  • Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen was ranked 6th, followed by MasterCard CEO Ajay Banga was ranked 7th and Microsoft chief Satya Nadella on the 9th spot. The list also features India-born CEO of DBS Bank Piyush Gupta on the 89th spot. Apple CEO Tim Cook was ranked 62nd in the list.
  • The Spanish capital city of Madrid will host the UN Climate Change Conference (COP 25) from 2 to 13 December. The decision was taken following Chile’s stepping down as host for the event due to the ongoing street protests in the South American country. The annual Conference of the Parties (COP) summit is a key event which allows representatives from around 200 nations to monitor and discuss the current situation of the world’s warming climate.
  • Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan inaugurated the 3rd edition of Global Ayurveda Summit 2019. As many as 400 industry leaders and delegates from SAARC, GCC and African countries have gathered in Kochi for the Global Ayurveda Summit 2019.
  • The first-ever India-Uzbekistan joint military exercise Dustlik-2019 begin at Chirchiq Training Area near Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The exercise, which will be focused on counter-terrorism, will continue till November 13.
  • The biennial Commonwealth Law Ministers’ Conference is being held in Colombo, Sri Lanka from 4-7 November 2019. India will be represented at the conference by Union Minister for Law and Justice Ravi Shankar Prasad. The Conference seeks to address challenges faced by millions of people seeking to resolve legal disputes.
  • ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ is an initiative to pay tribute to Sardar Patel, who played a key role in integrating the nation, for his great contributions to the nation. The initiative seeks to build bonds between people of different states of India. The programme is giving boost to existing cultural connect between different parts of e country and enhancing interaction between people living in different states.
  • The 15-day Aadi Mahotsav, National Tribal festival will be held in New Delhi from 16th to 30th November, 2019. The theme of the festival is “a Celebration of the Spirit of Tribal Crafts, Culture and Commerce”, which represents the basic ethos of tribal life.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a 2-day visit to Brazil from the 13th of this month to attend the 11th BRICS Summit in Brasilia, Brazil. The theme of the Summit this year is “Economic Growth for an Innovative Future”. This will be the sixth time that Mr Modi participates in the BRICS Summit.
  • According to ‘India Justice Report 2019’, Maharashtra is the top state in delivering justice to its citizens followed by Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Punjab and Haryana in the first-ever ranking of states on their capacity to deliver justice to citizens.
  • Union Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ and Minister for Food Processing Industries Harsimrat Kaur Badal will launch three books on Guru Nanak Dev Ji at Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa College, the University of Delhi, on the occasion of 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
  • 39th India International Trade Fair 2019 begins in New Delhi. The theme for the 39th edition of the fair is ‘Ease of Doing Business’ inspired by India’s unique achievement of rising to 63rd rank on the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business Index from 142nd rank in the year 2014.
  • India will host the 19th council of heads of government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation 2020. The first such high-level meeting of the 8-member grouping to be organised by New Delhi after its admission into the grouping in 2017.
  • The Jammu and Kashmir government has set up a 10-member committee to declare Srinagar’s famous Dal Lake and its surrounding areas as an eco-sensitive zone (ESZ), following concerns over its shrinking size. Pollution and encroachments have resulted in the Dal Lake shrinking from its original area of 22 square kilometres to about 10 square kilometres, according to an assessment by the Dredging Corporation of India (DCI) in 2017.
  • The Supreme Court ruled that the office of Chief Justice comes under the transparency law, the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
  • The festival ‘Bali Yatra’ which is organised every year in memory of the rich maritime history of the state, was inaugurated in Cuttack, Odisha. The festival is organised at the bank of Mahanadi River every year to mark the day when ancient mariners from the state would set sail to the distant land of Bali, Sumatra, Java (Jawa) in Indonesia, Borneo and Sri Lanka, for the expansion of trade and Culture.
  • Nita Ambani has been named as an honorary trustee of The Metropolitan Museum of Art on 12 November. The announcement was made by Daniel Brodsky, the chairman of the museum. She is the first Indian to be honoured so. She was elected at a meeting of the Board. She was selected for her commitment to The Met, and to preserving and promoting India’s art and culture is truly exceptional.
  • IQAirVisual, a Swiss-based group, named India’s Capital Delhi, is the most polluted city in the world. The report also showed that Kolkata and Mumbai on its list as the world’s sixth and ninth most polluted cities.
  • India ranked 78th in the Global Bribery Risk Index out of 178 countries. The index was released by Trace Bribery Risk Matrix. India scored with a total risk score of 48. TRACE provides a score from 1 to 100 to each country for each domain. If a country gets a higher score it means it is at a higher risk of business bribery.
  • Mauritius’s incumbent Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth was sworn in for a five-year term after elections in which his coalition consolidated its grip on parliament.
  • Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro will be the chief guest at Republic Day 2020 celebrations.
  • The Competition Commission of India (CCI) approves the merger of the BNP Paribas (BNPP) Mutual Fund and the Baroda (BOB) Mutual Fund, under Section 31(1) of the Competition Act, 2002.
  • The 35th ASEAN Summit began in Bangkok, Thailand from October 31 to 4 November. The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is a group of ten member countries that encourages political, economic and social co-operation in the region. The theme of the summit for this year is “Advancing Partnership for Sustainability”.
  • IT services firm Tech Mahindra Ltd (Tech M) has acquired BORN Group, a New York-based digital content and production agency, for $95 million. The acquisition will help to boost the electronic and mobile commerce segment globally, and equipped to deliver enhanced user experience to customers of Tech Mahindra globally.
  • Google appointed Sanjay Gupta as its new country manager and vice president of sales and operations. He succeeds in Rajan Anandan. He left Google and joined Sequoia Capital India as its managing director. The Star sports business through acquisitions of cricketing properties and launch of the Pro-Kabaddi League and football league, Indian Super League. Google to competitive and new digital economy  to build inclusive Internet for everyone in India.
  • The 27-year-old, Madhuri Vijay has won the JCB Prize for Literature 2019 for her debut novel ‘The Far Field’. She has been selected from a shortlist featuring novels from five accomplished writers. It is an annual Indian literary award founded in 2018. It is the richest literary honour in the country.
  • World Science Day for Peace & Development was observed on 10 November every year. The day ensures that citizens are informed of the developments in science. It also highlights the role of scientists in broadening the understanding of the earth and making societies more sustainable.
  • National Education Day is celebrated on 11 November in India. The day aims to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. On 11 September 2008, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) had decided to celebrate 11 November as National Education Day. The ministry decided to commemorate the birthday of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad for his contribution to the cause of education in India.
  • The World Diabetes Day (WDD) was observed globally on 14 November. The theme for diabetes awareness month and World Diabetes Day 2019 “Family and Diabetes”.
  • National Press Day is celebrated on 16th November 2019. It is celebrated every year. The day marks the presence of free and responsible press. On this day, the Press Council of India started functioning as a moral watchdog. It ensures that the press maintains high standards and is not fettered by any influence or threats.
  • The Indian football team dropped two places to 106th position in the latest FIFA rankings. The downward slid came following the Blue Tigers’ 1-1 draw against lower-ranked Bangladesh in the FIFA World Cup qualifier earlier this month. Bangladesh, however, benefitted from the draw, jumping three rungs to 184th spot. Belgium has managed to hold on to the top spot, followed by France and Brazil.
  • The 6-time world champion Mangte Chungneijang Mary Kom has been inducted into the 10-member sports ambassador group by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Boxing workforce to represent boxers ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
  • South Africa defeated England’s team by 32-12 scores in the final of the 9 edition of Rugby World Cup 2019 held at International Stadium, Yokohama, Japan. This was the 3 time the South African(SA) team reached the final of the World Cup and won the tournament.
  • The official emblem of FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup for the year 2020 which is to be conducted in India was unveiled. The design of the emblem is bright blue waves rise from the base and reach up along the form of the trophy towards a crown forming the shape of Paisley or Boteh motif commonly used in Kashmiri Pashmina shawl and carpets.
  • Lewis Hamilton has clinched a sixth Formula 1 world championship title at the US Grand Prix. The British racing driver is now just one behind all-time record holder Michael Schumacher. He finished second behind Mercedes team mate Valtteri Bottas to secure his sixth Formula 1 world championship.
  • Rafael Nadal is back to the world No.1 for the eighth time in his career in the ATP rankings released.
  • India will host the 2023 Men’s Hockey World Cup from 13th to 29th of January. The International Hockey Federation (FIH) India will play host to the men’s tournament while Spain and the Netherlands have been named as the co-hosts of the 2022 Women’s World Cup scheduled to be held from 1st to 22nd of July. The decisions were made during FIH’s Executive Board Meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland.
  • India pacer Deepak Chahar recorded the best-ever figures in the Twenty20 Internationals when he returned figures 6 for 7 runs in 3.2 overs against Bangladesh at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. The previous record of 6 for 8 by Sri Lankan mystery spinner Ajantha Mendis against Zimbabwe in 2012.
  • The 2019 World Kabaddi Cup will take place from December 1 to 9 and will be organised by the Punjab government in Punjab. This year’s tournament will be dedicated to the 550th birth anniversary of Sikh guru, Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
